Virgin Media Pioneers celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week in style with a series of Masterclasses, which we were lucky enough to be invited to.
The theme for the masterclass was “Are you ready to change the world?” which was oozing with top tips for making a difference in your community and maximising your impact as a social entrepreneur.
The sessions were led by David McQueen who inspired the whole group into action with a series of short exercises (everything from dance moves to impromptu pitches)
Shortly after we then heard from 4 great panelists who shared their personal experiences of launching their businesses, including VOOM 2015 finalist Andrew Hunt who founded Aduna, an organisation focussed on ethically-sourced, high quality ingredients. Becky Willan founder of Given – a brand communications agency driven by sustainability. Ronke Oke founder of natural skin care brand Emi & Ben and Julian Borra who is a creative strategist and founder of Thin Air Factory.
We picked up key insights from the panelists, our favourite tips from the day were:
1. Action will forever speak a million times louder than words, if you want to make something happen don't just talk about it, do it!
2. Your Network can really unlock countless doors and opportunities for your venture, never underestimate the power of connecting with new people and gatekeepers within your industry.
3. The importance of writing things down and planning efficiently. Documenting things allows you to stay on top of things as it can be so easy to loose track of things on your journey as an entrepreneur.
Albert Chong, Head of Quality and Performance at UnLtd then graced the stage where he shared his expertise on the importance on identifying your stakeholders and striking the right balance between making a commercial and social impact.
The day finished in style as the audience was given the chance to take the stage with 'speed pitches' giving budding entrepreneurs the chance to get in on the action and gain some feedback on their business ideas. (there was even some people who we're presenting for the very first time!)
